    Hello,

I currently have 2 mechanical clocks on my oil heating system. One controls the burner and pump for the hot water cylinder and the other the circulation pump for the radiators. one is now faulty and I'd like to replace both with one digital one as it can be difficult to marry up the times on the clocks. I also need a stat for the cylinder as the only way to control the hot water temp is with the stat on the burner which is a pain. I'm looking for recommendations to buy both online.

Also it's an old cylinder with a double coil as I've removed an old back boiler and an old range which were plumbed with 1 1/2" connections to it. I've noticed though that the pipe to the coil from the burner is reduced to 1/2" through the cylinder and increases back to 1 1/2" on the return. Is this normal? Would the 1 1/2" coil be more efficient?

Doesnt sound as simple as you think it is, if your "only way to control the hot water temp is with the stat on the burner" then you will also need a motorized valve that will be operated by the cylinder stat so it's now not a DIY job.
As for the old double coiled cylinder fed from your burner, i wonder if you have confused your flow and returns (high and low connections on cylinder). It's been known for some plumbers to return in a 1/2 pipe and save on pipework cost where a lockshield would be fitted.
Pictures would make it easier to comment on.
