    Guys,

Thinking of getting LG 42LM615S from Pixmania. For the life of me I can't find out online if it is MPEG4 H.264 compatible. Lots of conflicting info. Don't care about MHEG for text.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

Got the next model up but it is smart tv with browser for 100 extra and it picks up saorview with text no prob. Also has a sat tuner to pick up channels as well. For extra 100 I would pay it http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/11926830/art/lg/42lm620s-3d-led-televisio.html

Looks like it is but not from official site http://www.display.tech-details.com/LG_42LM615S/

As the TV is 3D I think it's safe to assume it has an MPEG-4 video decoder, also the specs on the Pixmania site indicates the TV has H.264/AVC decoder (same standard as MPEG-4) multimedia decoding.

    The Cush,
Thanks, It does mention H.264/AVC in the ‘supported media types’, but I don’t see it in the tuner section? I suppose it’s probable that if it has the decoder on board it could be used for any signal source.

    Audioslavin,
Thanks, regarding the Smart option, I don’t use social media sites, and I think I’d rather surf on my laptop, and I don’t want my wife surfing while I want to watch the telly! I think the only thing I’d like it for is catch up TV. Is there any way to get around the IP address thing, or is it just RTE player access? How do you find it, I’d value your opinion.
Saying that I do like the fact your suggestion is 400Hz, and you’ve proved it works!

The reason I’m as nervous as a bag of cats is because it’s Pixmania. There seems to be an unusually large amount of neg feedback on the forums for them. Also, their contact email link on their site doesn’t work, which is worrying.

    Syracus,

I have bought 4 tvs from them(pixmania) for different people and no issues to report. I know other people have gone on some threads with some issues. I havn't tried RTE player yet.It has a dedicated browser which is nice. Using the remote to browse is a pain but you can hook on a USB keyboard and mouse. There are apps like Netflix, youtube etc on it as well. I bought the USB dongle for wifi. The sat tuner was a big plus for me as I have free to air dish and it picks up HD channels.

The picture is very good. I have had a few over and they have commented on the picture quality. It has played all the movie files I have thrown at it. You can also record to a hard drive from the TV which is nice. However, i have not tested this.

    Hope this helps.

This Tv also has a DVB-S2 tuner which would enforce the requirement for H264/AVC processor.

Answer is yes anyhow. The tuner input is a hybrid DVB-T/C.

It helps enormously, thanks. Actual feedback like this is so much more useful than the 'reviews' on the web.
It would seem the Humux freesat receiver I bought last year could be rendered useless, a good thing, one less remote...
Something else occurred to me last night. On your TV how do the terrestrial and satellite channel selections, and EPG's, work together? Is it too much to hope they'd be combined somehow? (This is my first foray into flatscreens would you believe, our trusted 28" CRT is just on the verge of giving up the ghost).:D

The EPG just appears for now and next. I am not sure on the 7 day guide but will check this out for you if you wish. I find that sometimes if I am on Channel 1 and I select the EPG, it shows the first page of now and next channels but the second page is not shown. I then have to select the first channel of the second page to get the now and next programmes. It was working at the start but I put on two firmware updates, so not sure if there is an issue with the firmware. I need to look into this more TBH. I don't think the epg are combined for terresterial and sat in that you can browser through the lot but will check tonight for def.
I really haven't tested it loads as I have it just a week and with a new baby I am not allowed!!!

Your Humux would be made redundant. It also allows to restrict/remove channels for kids etc Babestation which is handy. All in all, I am very happy with it. I was on the lookout for a new TV and I was checking some shops but the price for the same specs were in the region of 1K. If you are getting it, use pixmania code for discount and go through fatcheese. It will save you around 30 euro or so

Hit me if you have any more questions

Ok the saorview 7 day epg is there. The Rte player does not work. I have sound but no video. I have just now and next on the sat epg as its free to air and not freesat. Both EPG are not combined. The channels are split by Digital Terrestrial and Sat and you can switch between them.

Best of luck with it. I don't think you will be disappointed. You can create an account on the LGapp site to see the list of apps and download/install them.

    Hi guys,

I just purchased the lm615 from Pixmania too and i'm delighted with it. I'm not 100% on how to tune in Saorview though. At present I have UPC SD and Xbox, 3D Bluray hooked up. There are Sky cables coming from the wall from the previous occupant. I'm going to upgrade to UPC HD soon but I want to figure out the saorview myself. I like fiddling around and figuring things out.

Anyway, there are two cables from the wall, i've tried auto tuning with these connected but to no avail. Am i doing it arseways? I know its simple so its wrecking my head Any help is appreciated, cheers,

    TK

You have to know what's on the other end of the cables.

Doesn't this tv have a satellite tuner? Have you connected the cables to this input (screw-on connection) or to the terrestrial aerial connection (push-in)?

Is there an aerial mounted somewhere on or in the house?

Peter i've tried both screw in and push in.
Cush i'm fairly sure there is an aerial, im in a modern celtic tiger era estate in navan.

What im really wondering is whether there are certain settings on the tv i should have to pick up these signals, certain satellites or whatever.

On the set up screen it shows auto tuning, manual tuning, satellite setting.

On auto tuning it gives me a choice of antenna, cable, satellite, antenna and satellite, cable and satellite.

On manual setting i have dtv, tv or satellite dtv, each with a range of customisable options, ie, vhf ch, frequency etc.

on satellite setting there are a range of options like satellite, lnb frequency, transponder, 22khz tone, lnb power, diseqc, unicable setting, motor type

    Thanks guys,

You say there is a Sky installation? Did the 2 cables in the wall have f-connectors (the screw on ones)?

These could probably be easily traced to the dish. Sky dish will be pointed at the 28 degrees east satellite position. The default satellite settings will usually be right; universal lnb with 9750/10600 LO, 22 KHz on auto, lnb power on etc.

You won't get Saorview from the dish & you can't assume there is an aerial fitted. It wouldn't usually be included in a new house spec., no matter how "tiger".

Hi, Youll need your cable signal connected (satellite screw type connector), and an ariel connected (push in connection). Check your tv has both these types of connector.

You mentioned two cables from the wall. You need to go into the attic to check that one of these is connectwd to an ariel for saorview.

on the tv under tuning menu, select ariel and cable/satellite, it will then tune both signals.

My tv picks up both fine.

Only issue ive has is that the back of the tv vibrates on low bass sound. Apart from that very good.

    B.

Hi Guys, a quick question, has anyone tried setting the location to UK postcode and see if the full freesat menu comes up? Its advertised as freesat on pixmania
