€500~ on a laptop / pc

I have circa €500 to €600 burning a hole in my pocket and a Dell laptop falling apart on my coffee table. My proposed solution to both problems is buying a new laptop.

I have a friend that, through connections in apple, can source a MacBook Air for around €600 but I'm more an an android guy (although the new Iphone might change that) and unsure about making the switch to apple.

What is the best laptop I can buy for this admittly low sum? I do a large amount of internet based work and may want to play some games during my down time - nothing "next gen" or ''cutting edge'' but mainly it would be casual surfing and word processing.

Good people of the computers and technology boards, please advise :)

Just outside your budget, but this HP at Komplett does have an Ivy Core i5 and a decent GPU (better than a GT 630M), €639 delivered.

Of course, if you can grab a MBA for 600 yoyos go for it (provided it's new and not some 2 or 3 yr old refurbished clunker), although there's not much gaming with an Intel IGP.

    Thank you

The MBA would be new although I will double check that. I'll have to compare the stats to the HP.

The 'gaming' I refer to would be very much retro gaming - Worms and Unreal Tournament, whatever I have lying around that might kill a few hours or take my mind of life the universe and everything. Not exactly Ram intensive.

I'm good with software etc but terrible at the hardware side of things...

Actually one thing I didn't mention in the OP - I stream alot of movies and show.

I bought a Samsung RV511 for around €400 last year and does great for what you need, retro gaming, word processing. The integrated gpu's are fine for games for the ps1 gen and most ps2.
