Saorview Switchover

I've just been wondering how many people in the country who just use terrestrial have actually switched over, or is there going to be a big rush coming up to 10am October 24? Why I'm thinking this I don't see many people in my locality having made the switch. I'm able to work this out because where I'm living is using a different transmitter for Saorview than analogue, we are moving from Listowel to Cnoc an Oir and well as it stands, I think I've seen about four aerials pointing at the new transmitter. Of course a lot of these people may have Sky or UPC and it won't matter to them and you might be able to get Saorview with the aerial pointing at the old transmitter if you can get enough signal. But if all the aerials that I can see not pointed the right way need to be done there is a lot of work to do here. I also wrote to our digital switchover champion offering to help but I never got a reply.

According to Saorview approximately 350,000 households in total yet to convert to digital, with 250,000 of these being exclusively reliant on the aerial.
    SAORVIEW Results to Date

As the SAORVIEW campaign enters its final countdown phase, we can report some really positive results from our latest round of research:
    • There is now 90% awareness that the analogue switchover is due to happen and a near universal awareness of the SAORVIEW service.
    • Awareness is highest exactly where it needs to be, in terrestrial households at 97%.
    • Close to 200,000 households are currently connected to SAORVIEW on at least one TV in the home and the feedback to date is positive.
    • 70% of those surveyed have a strong understanding of what they need to do to make the switch.
    • 78% of households with aerials understand that not taking action will result in loss of service.

There are approximately 350,000 households in total yet to convert to digital, with 250,000 of these being exclusively reliant on the aerial. These households face a blank screen if they do not take action by connecting the aerial to a SAORVIEW Approved box or TV before October 24th.

In a recent IPSOS MRBI poll almost 26% of respondents do not believe the switchover will happen on 24th October.

91% of people knew about the digital switchover
70% of those surveyed say they have a “strong understanding” of what they need to do to switch to SAORVIEW
78% understand that not taking action in households with aerials, will result in loss of service
37% who need to make the switch won’t do it until the deadline

Lot of people going to miss Fair City if they don't get themselves organised soon!

Minister Rabbitte was on RTE1 this morning emphasising that it will happen on Oct 24th though he talked about blank screens on Oct 25th, he must think it's going to happen on the night of Oct 24/25 when in fact it's going to happen on the morning of Oct 24th.

I think it would be no harm if he and Gay Byrne also pointed out when given the opportunity that because of the switch in NI that we have no option to delay the switchover so that no matter what the IFA, Macra ne Feirme, etc. say, the analog signal will be switched off on Oct 24th.

26% would be right in thinking that :) They would be the approx 26% who can get analogue cable from UPC till at least end 2013. I understand UPC will continue to offer it until then as they have no plan for faster BB packages before 2014 BY when they MAY need the space occupied by analogue TV.
