Teeth moving after braces, fixed retainer

I got braces on when I was 21 and has them off when I was 23. (im 25 now) I got a fixed retainer on top and bottom , lately I've noticed my eye teeth have shifted and there is a gap , making my teeth look crooked from the side. I mentioned it to my orthodontist when I went and I feel like he fobbed me off .. He said they do shift into their final position after braces have been take off , but I thought the retainer stops this? He then went and extended my retained slightly.
Do I have to accept my teeth the way they are or should he 'fix' them. I paid an awful lot to have straight teeth and I'm upset that this would happen

Do you wear a removable retainer also?
Were the canines part of the fixed retainer over the last 2years?

I don't have another retainer to wear and the fixed retainer was on the top 4 teeth and now extends to the top 6

Extra information useful, will have to pass this one to someone more qualified to answer comprehensively, ie: an orthodontist:D
However, it's completely natural that teeth will shift very slightly over time. This can occur even in patients with no history of pre-existing crowding/ortho treatment, and also in patients with no wisdom teeth.
