Travelling With A child (Aer Lingus)

We're travelling with our 22 month old daughter in the next few weeks on an Aer Lingus flight, just wondering if anyone whos had similar experience can help us out with a few questions, we got in touch with customer service but the answers were vague.

1.We paid for a seat for her, and are now wondering as she is under 2 years of age will she need a car seat? She'll sit in her own seat no problem but we thought the airline might get technical and insist that she needs a car seat too. Anyone got any experience/advice here?

    2. Because she has her own seat she is entitled to the same baggage allowance as us. As her stuff is packed with our own, can her buggy be counted as her baggage allowance?

    Any info greatly appreciated

They won't insist on a booster seat. While the logic of using one is sound, the crew won't take any interest. The only point which they may make would be to put your child on your lap and use the extra infant belt. I only see this as a mild possibility depending on how small your daughter is for her 22 months, a but of a visual thing if you get me.

With regards the buggy, we've flown a few times with 1 bag each, including my daughters, and the buggy has always been separate, so it never impacted on our hand luggage.

Buggy is not counted as luggage.

She probably won't get a luggage allowance....i know ryanair don't give luggage allowance to under 2's.

You won't need a booster seat but they may make her go on to your lap for take off and landing.

If she has her own (paid for seat) then she is entitled to her own baggage allowance. Where Ryanair don't give luggage allowance to under 2s they also don't expect you to buy a seat for your under 2

    Child/Infant Baggage Allowance
All cabin baggage must be included in the accompanying adult's baggage allowance.
Long-haul flights - Checked baggage - A fully collapsible push-chair/stroller is allowed free of charge in addition to 10 kgs/22 lbs of baggage. The push-chair/stroller is checked in with the baggage and can be handed down at the gate if required.
Short-haul flights - Checked baggage - A fully collapsible push-chair/stroller is allowed free of charge for an infant booking only. The push-chair/stroller is checked in with the baggage and can be handed down at the gate if required, except for flights departing London Heathrow where push chairs/strollers are not permitted to be handed down at the gate and must be handed in with checked baggage.
Cabin and check-in baggage allowance for children aged 2-12 is the same as for adults

Taken from the aer lingus website.

As i said...children under 2 don't normally receive a baggage allowance, regardless if the seat is paid for or not.

Sod that. If I'd paid for a seat I'd expect the baggage allowance that goes with that seat
