As one who has a LOT of issues with the book's interpretation, I feel a movie after the book will be impossible to like as it will invariably involve an interpretation of the book that annoys me!

And yet, I really want to see this movie. Despite Keira Knightley being miscast as Anna, I feel I must see this movie. The primary reason I feel this is a movie I must watch is because I feel the medium of television and film is chewing gum for the mind (as a result of modern tv shows and film), and the cinematic depiction of the greatest book I have ever read (because it made me re-evaluate every aspect of my life, for the better) can never impact upon my life the same way as a movie can. My urge to go see this movie is almost like a final chance for film to convince me it is of intellectual merit. And I back up this point by quoting the typical review to a movie based upon a book "the book was better". For that reason I feel that the mere making a movie based on this most sacred of texts is insulting to the book and literature in general. Talk about setting standards high!

But I will go to see it and inevitably cry myself to sleep that night. What do other Boardsies feel about this movie, I am really interested to know!

Much like yourself, I know I'm probably going to hate it, but I have to see it. It looks miscast though. Same deal as The Great Gatsby, on that front.

Knightly too young for this part-and each time I see her I want to grab that jaw and push it back into place....tough book to adapt to the screen-an attempt was made in the 90s with Sean Bean and Sophie Marceau-great casting but weak script and editing.

This has to be one of the most adapted books ever.

First attempt was done in 1910 or thereabouts.

Keira Knightley really is the go to actress for all these period pieces but here she is miscast plus she really is too skinny, trailer below

Has anyone actually seen this yet?

Does anyone else find it annoying how intense and thrilling trailers try to make costumed dramas look? :pac:

Just saw this last night - as someone who hasn't read the book I thought it was very good! Most of the movie is set on a huge stage and it works very well - the whole thing was very fluid. I also thought Anna's descent was very well done and Knightley wasn't too bad (although her jaw WAS a distraction). I also thought Domhnall Gleeson was very good as Levin!

    Also I'm new here heya

    Knightley is no Garbo.

i absolutely hated Keira Knightly in this.

Some aspects of the film we cool, Domhnall Gleeson characters story was the only redeeming piece. The second half was just a mess. ugh, il never get those 130 minutes back.

I just came across this thread and I have to say I thought this was an astonishing post - if you are expecting this movie to convince you that ''film is of intellectual merit'' then you know little about books and even less about film and nothing about art in general.

And I say this not even having seen the film .

    Perhaps.

I think this film was excellent, I was really impressed with it, I really felt for the characters, I thought it was really well done.
