Malta in October...St Pauls Bay or St Julians?

Heading to Malta in mid October and wondering where is the best area to stay? I know it's a small enough island and was planning on staying in Bugibba but then I read a few forums advising that ST Julians and Sliema are the only places to stay at that time of year.

We're just looking for a relaxing hoiliday so don't mind basing ourselves somewhere quieter once there's good transport links to get around the island.

My question really is...would Bugibba/Qawra still have bars and restaurants open or would it be completely dead?
I don't mind quiet but I don't want to be staying in a ghost town!
    Thanks.

Whatever you do don't stay in Bugibba at that time. Sliema seems the best bet for you as it's quiet yet close to the action if you want it. St. Julians should have settled down by then also. It's a tourist warzone at the moment. Any other info just PM me.

We stayed here a couple of years ago in the off season, although it was April as opposed to October. Got a great deal and the hotel as almost everything you would want in it.
When we were there a few of the outdoor pools were closed as was the nightclub, not sure if they'd be open or not in October.
Would highly recommend it if you head for St Pauls side.
