As above. I've seen some advertised and wouldn't say no to a cheap and cheerful one, say around 8 or 9 feet. Anybody got any experience witht them?

Ya OP have one for years.
Watch for rust where the belts are, check gearbox for play.
Make sure it has the proper blades, the ones with the wings at the back of the cutting edge are better than flat blades.
The cable going from the toplink wears out, but can be replaced with a chain.
Go for the 9 foot one, the offset is very handy for cutting under electric fences. Anymore questions just ask.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I was wondering whether they might have been a heap of scrap and that that's why they were going cheap. Also things like parts availability (I suppose this would only really be blades) and durability. I've seen the odd one on the Farmers Trader or on DoneDeal going for around the €1000 mark which seems good for a machine of that size

Excellent machine. I have a 1978 9ft model that tops around 100 acres every year. Must be oiled and stored indoors. Easy to service.
