How to lower smoke-for NCT

Had my 2006 hyundai trajet in today for NCT today, it failed on "Smoke" 3.490, I put Upper cylinder lubricant and injector cleaner in two hours before the test and drove it for an hour before the test.
Any suggestions on what else I can try for next time to get it passed?

    What is upper cylinder lubricant?
Best thing is to service it with the correct grade oil, new air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, taking it on a good, long drive and just in general keeping it serviced.
Make sure all the sensors are OK, maybe have it hooked up to a fault code reader to see if something is amiss.
My garage swears by a certain hydraulic oil, they will always put 500 ml into my tank, the last time they did that I passed the NCT with smoke way below permissible levels.
Of course if the fuel pump/injectors/rings/pistons/cylinders are knackered, none of the above will help.

Try bringing it to a mechanic with your failure report, and have him fix it.

2 advantages to this: your motor is not polluting, your motor will last longer.

The limit is 3.0 so you're not too bad, ideally you should have put the potions in at least a few days beforre the test, it could well be Smokey due to the injector cleaner working. I'd be tempted to just throw it in for retest after a week or so. Give it plenty of welly in the interim and maybe have a peak at the air filter.
