White filling fell out after 8 months

Hello. I had part of my tooth break off eight months ago, and was given three options to fill the hole by my dentist. I took the middle option in terms of price, a white filling, - possibly Cerec? - that was fairly substantial given the hole was fairly big. Cost around €90, second last tooth, upper jaw at the back. It felt fine after.

I had my teeth cleaned yesterday, and today while eating lunch the filling fell out. Looks like I'm going to have to go for the dearest option now, close to €700 I think. Do I have any basis for complaint here? In other words, should I ask for some kind of discount on the new replacement crown, seeing as the previous filling fell out after only a few months, and after a cleaning in the same practice? Would appreciate some knowledgeable advice here.

Why should you get a discount? You were given the options and you decided to go for the middle spec and price option... Why should the dentist now do the crown cheaper just because you didn't want to pay for it from the start and now have the fracture or loss of filling that the dentist was aiming to prevent???

Ask the receptionist will they put the cost of the filling towards the crown. They can only say no!

A white filling isnt very suitable for a molar tooth especially a large filling as they arent strong enough.
You may be better off getting a metal filling .

just go back to the dentist and say the filling fell out the day after your last visit for the cleaning and leave it to him to suggest something.

If €90 was the middle option in terms of price, €700 being the highest, then the lowest would have been about €11?
A filling is most successful when it is doing just that...."filling in" a tooth (ie:small-medium cavity well supported by surrounding tooth) When there's a substantial cavity, you're "filling out" said tooth, ergo that filling is more at risk of falling out.
It's very hard to strongly recommend a crown from the get-go without it coming across to the patient as a money issue versus a genuine tooth issue.

From personal experience, I have found most dentists to be quite accommodating when it comes to things like this. I once had a dentist replace a filling for me for free because he felt the work that my previous dentist had done on it was sub-par! I was only booked in for a check-up!

I would encourage you to ask, I wouldn't be surprised if they said no though.
