Surprised there isn't a thread on this already,

It's on today and tomorrow but there is very little info online as to what is appearing this weekend. No schedule with who is appearing and when. The only info out there seems to be that the red arrows are appearing this evening at 5 and the euro fighter tomorrow at an unknown time.

Is anyone planning of taking a run over? I'm going to take a spin over today, seems the weather might be good this year so hopefully nothing will be grounded like other years. Will likely post photos here at some stage ;)

There is a good source of info on this (& other Aviation news etc.) on the Northern Ireland Aviation forums
(not looking like as good a show as previous years this year, but may still be worth a trip)

Well was a decent days displays, weather was a bit crappy but it wasn't raining horrible for photos though. Highlight of the day for me Sbach 342 (I think) awesome little plane, never seen anything roll like that before.

Bit disappointed with the Red Arrow's having to use only 6 & 7 for a 2 plane display :( An engine fault in one plane earlier in the day & a bird strike just as they went to start a 6 plane display here forced their hand pity.

Anyway uploading some photos as I type will post some in the morning.

    I dont believe this !

I work a six day week and yesterday was my day off. I sat for nearly an hour looking for something to do and would have loved to go up to see that.

Whoever organised it should be shot for not advertising it better.

Sorry.. Meant Northern Ireland/Ulster (up as on the map :o), UTV seemed to run plenty of ads for it.

Didn't go myself this year for a change (wasn't too enthused by the line up) so went to a Viking re-inactment with the wife & kids instead!

We know it was in Ulster, but where?

God I'we the worst like with Portrush Airshow...last year I went on Sunday to see Vulcan Bomber which was a no show, this year I went to see Red Arrows and they had some technical difficulties aswell :D Otherwise yesterdays the weather was loveley(unlike today) and the rest of the show was spectacular.

I'd never set foot in Portrush, I don't care what's going on!! HATE the place with a passion!!

How come the Baldonnell/Casement ones never take place anymore? I tried finding out but even Google didn't know!!

I've been wondering this as well. I went to Baldonnell in 2000 for the show and it was great.

How come it hasn't been repeated?

The reason there are no more shows is the Air Corps wont let any more be held there after the organizers of the 2000 show did such a bad job and walked away and left Baldonnel in such a bad state that it took the Air Corps weeks to sort the place out....

Also aircraft at the show were not properly protected from the general public and the pilots and crew were not impressed, some pilots doing pre-flight checks found rubbish put in air intakes and exhausts so they reported the show as a badly run one to their countries....

Damn shame that, was at the ones in '94(or thereabouts) and 2000 and loved them both (first sight of a mustang and first hearing of a growling merlin <3 ). Got up for a spin in the DC-3 at the 2k show....

That airshow in baldonnel was 12 years ago at this stage. Previous to that successful show's were staged in 86,87,89 and 93. If my memory serves me correct it was a different group whom organised the 2000 Air Spectacular to the earlier one's. Surely the IAC would be willing to open their gates to the public if the right people approached them. The obvious problem with the the static aircraft that year, was there was no barrier's around them, hence the crowd could walk freely around them. This is something that could be easily introduced. A damn shame there is never a show there anymore. Maybe we should try and organise one ourselves!

There were more issues than just crowd control. There were issues with ticketing, theft, Air corps neglect, organiser neglect, accomodation problems and several other issues that effectively killed the Air Spec. The story of the rubbish being put into aircraft intakes and exhausts is true because I was in the Don then and helped to clear trash out of a Mirage's exhaust. The French pilot was understandably raging! Also, two aircraft, an A-10 and a Tornado had their pitot tubes tampered with and there were several instances of people (Donners and civvies) stealing from visiting aircraft. At least Bray keeps the punters away from the aircraft.
