Parking Tickets

I got 2 parking tickets from the Gardai that were separated by 10 minutes for the same offence. I wrote to the superintendent in the same Garda station to ask them to explain the reason. Do I have any rights to appeal if this draws a blank?

The gardai don't write out parking tickets on cars so this must happen a lot. Personally I think no physical ticket - no fine. But whats my tuppence worth ?

The District Court will hear your appeal and rule accordingly.

Assuming your letter arrived the super will cancel the second one. That's as long as you didn't drive away and come back again 10 mins later. It might be worth your while ringing the district office on Monday and following up to see which one you need to pay before it goes into the higher fine.

I'm not sure a physical ticket would prevent 'double ticketing', though a time interval measured in minutes is certainly extreme.

I spotted the car below a few months ago in a municipal car park in Galway City. There were five tickets visible, in and on the car. I could see three dates: 17th, 23rd, 24th May.

It is legal to issue a new ticket every 24 hours as it is deemed a new offence.

Source? Do you mean they can't issue two tickets within 24 hours - so a €40 parking ticket "entitles" you to 24 hours parking?

I was a traffic warden in a past life.

The offence is deemed to be a continuous offence so a fresh ticket every 24 hours is legal and proper.

Thanks. Something else struck me though - what if the parking area had a maximum parking limit of 2 hours - could it be taken that every two hours a new offence was committed in this case?

Nope. It would still be one offence per day.
