I have a southern reg car but I have it a uk contract for 2 years and I will have to re reg my car on uk plates. But what happens when I come back will I have to repay Vrt?

No, VRT is only paid once on the car which was when it was new. You will even get your old Irish reg number back.

I'd think about selling it... buying a cheaper (better priced as in) car in the UK then use it for 2 years - bringing it back when you return, which will be free from VRT too!
