I have signed up for a barber course 1 evening a week for ten weeks. Just lookin for advice really from someone who did a barber course and could direct me in the right direction. Where do a go after the course. I would like to do this full time.

without wanting to sound condescending the next step is to apply for a job in a barber, I would have taught. I assume its a bit like being a hairdresser and you need to start as a trainee, low wages and ****ty working conditions but after putting in the work it should pay off an eventually you can be self employed.

I have done a hairdressing course, not a barbering one, but really, the only thing you can do is look around and see if anyone will take you on, even if only for experience. You can only start from the bottom in this career, unfortunately. It is extremely hard work, but worth it if it is what you want.

From the experiences I have had, there are some days I loved it, then other days wondered why the hell am I doing this.... It is testy, because the majority of people will treat you like dirt - you really have to work for a long time to get respected. I'm not trying to put you off, just being honest about it. Also, you have to learn to have a tough skin, working with clients every day that will do anything for free service can test your patience.

Do some work experience before diving in full on, it's the best way to know how you will do :)

    Good luck.

That is some good advice thanks. I was thinking of doing a bit of unpaid barber work if some one will take me on. Also cutting hair at home just to gain confidence. Really lookin forward to a new start

I started out in work experience and got a few paid days from it, work experience will always get you something, if you out the work in :)

    Good luck.

Another thing I swear by is any work I do, take a picture and it goes into my portfolio. The amount of interviewers that have commented what an asset it is has been brilliant.
