Electricity provider Energia will supply power to Ireland's M50 Motorways road lighting under a €750,000 electricity supply contract it has signed with M50 motorway operator M50 Concession Ltd.

The M50 Motorways road lighting has a load of more than 1 Megawatt and M50 Concession Ltd operates and maintains the M50 motorway from the M1 to the M11, providing a 24-hour emergency response and vehicle recovery service, patrols on the motorway, and routine and cyclic maintenance operations.

“Electricity is crucial to our management and maintenance of the M50,” said Fraser Boyd, operations manager, M50 Concession Ltd.

“We looked for an established supplier who could offer us a competitive tariff and attentive customer service. That is why we chose Energia for this new 5.5 gigawatt annual supply deal. We can reduce our energy costs while knowing that we are not sacrificing on the quality of the service provided.”

Shane Canavan, key account manager at Energia, said M50 Concession Ltd will be joining more than 65,000 Irish businesses that have chosen Energia for their energy needs.

Energia has a 28pc market share of the Irish business electricity and gas market supplying the energy needs of more than 65,000 business customers.

In addition to renewable assets, the company also operates a 750MW gas-fired power station in north Dublin.
