    Hi there,

Can you get UPC in Killarney?

Its says you can online, but have talked to people down there and they said you can't.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Best to ring UPC on 1908.

In some areas there are cables strung along the house. This is called "pipe" or cable TV.

In some non cable areas UPC offer a system called MMDS. This is a pay system that uses a special MMDS aerial and a decoder box. You don't get as many channels and you can't get phone or broadband.

Ring UPC and if they say you can get a service ask them which one and what services and packages you can get and what you cannot get. In some MMDS areas you can get a box that records, in other MMDS areas it is not technically possible.

UPC are best to advice. If considering switching from Sky be careful as packages are not the same so you can't compare like with like.

Most popular UK and Irish channels are available for free using a Saorview and FreeSAT box.

If recording is important to you I recommend getting a professionally installed solid dish with a Humax Foxsat +HD box. This is the easiest to use and allows recording, pause, series link etc. It is the closest to a Sky+ box possible without a monthly charge.

For the Irish channels either a TV with Saorview built in or if recording is important a new box will be approved in the next 8 weeks. This will allow pause, recording, series link etc for the Irish channels. This needs a TV aerial to work. I would wait until it is approved and a few people have reviewed it, especially if you are in no hurry.

If recording is not important then any FreeSAT HD (non+) is cheaper and easy to use and any Saorview box or TV.

Just be aware that if you are offered MMDS from UPC, that ComReg appear to be minded not to offer another licence once the current one expires so you may be looking for another platform in two years time.
