    Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to post this. I have managed to get my hands on a jpeg photo of my great great grandmother and relations celebrating the birth of my mam and twin brother. As their 60th birthday is fast approaching I'd love to be able to get the picture touched up and printed as a gift to them both.

Could you possibly suggest a good photo restoration company to do the job for me as I wouldn't have a clue where to start with photoshop etc.

Thanks in advance for your help

Maybe post it up here. somebody may enjoy doing it if its not too far gone.

People here usually do it for free as long as it's not a massive job. There are limits to what can be done, of course. A crappy low res image will always be a crappy low res image.

really? thats brilliant. Well I'll post up the jpeg but I don't think its a very good resolution. If it can't be fixed, I'll try to get my hands on the original :)

    thanks

That's a cool photo! Nice to see a relaxed snapshot, all our older family ones are all very posed. The quality is not bad either, that should come up really well.

I use Edmund Ross in Dublin in no one here can help you. He's expensive, but very very good.

It doesnt look in terrible condition so thats the good news, but to do a decent job of restoring it you'd need a higher resolution version to work from. Is it possible for you to rescan it? If you're stuck and think you'll be near the city centre any evening this week, let me know and I can scan the original for you in much higher resolution.

Thanks for your offer Splinters, but I've just found out I've no way of getting my hands on the original. Not to worry, I'll see if I can get someone to do a little job on it from the version I have. I know it won't be up to scratch but it'll have to do, I'm hoping the gesture of doing it will be enough :)

I can have a go at restoring the version you have if you like. It wont be a perfect job due to low resolution but i can see if i can improve it somehow

I just had a quick go at it, far from perfect but an improvement I think. Would be easier with a higher res version :)

If you're interested, you should have a go at colouring the b&w photo. There's an excellent article in the June edition of N-Photo magazine on how to do this, and the results are very impressive.
