Wing mirror replacement

Hope this is the right place to be posting this.

Basically, some eejit sped past me on a narrow road and broke my wing mirror. Glass is shattered, still there, but hanging off so I can't actually direct what way it faces and can't see the road, but the casing part of it seems to be pretty intact.

How much'll this cost me to get it fixed and what's the best way of going about it? Please and thanks.

    There are two possibilities here.

    1. Only the glass is broken, so you can just replace that. You can generally buy it online, it clips in.

    2. The whole mirror needs replacement because the internal mechanism is broken. You'll know if it feels loose/won't adjust. Take the broken glass off to check. If this is the case, you may be able to salvage the body coloured section for the replacement - be careful not to break any clips when removing. Replacing a mirror is actually a lot easier than it looks - remove the inner cover, pop off the bolts, unclip the wiring block, do it again backwards to fit the new one and you're done.

Yeah, definitely situation number two, but at least the casing part is ok. Thank you!

I failed my nct today due to a crack / chunk missing in my wing mirror cover. Does anyone know of any filler or something that I can use to do a DIY job and fill it back in? I don't have the money to get a replacement at the moment

Your local motor factors will have small tins of filler, fill the hole and sand it smooth.
