I have a Vodafone dongle, but its for work only, blocked when in the UK. Can I buy a SIM card and go Pay as you go when visiting London? Or is there a better option? I am not sure if we where I am staying in London ( nr St. Barts Hospital) has hotspots etc... any advice gratefully accepted!

You'll need to get te Vodafone dongle unlocked. It's farly easy to get a SIM in the U?k but my recommendation is to see which network has the strongest signal for 3G where you plan to use it - fairly handy way is to toggle a smart phone across the available networks.
