Hello. Just thought I'd start this thread for some feed back. I am a newly qualified solicitor and have been considering my options, prospects and future like many people in my position. Left my last about 2 months ago. I've been interested in Aviation Finance/ Aircraft Leasing for some time and have been building up my knowledge of the area as well as developing a number of contacts in the industry. Also I started a short job seekers course in this field in University Limerick. I am trying to get a job with one of the main aircraft lessors, whether it be in ireland or abroad. I am trying to look at my position as a newly qualified as a "positive" in that i have a clean slate and am ready to start something new. I dont have any direct experience in the area from a professional standpoint and it is difficult to break in without this. I intend to ntwork extensively with the contacts ive built up the last few months while continuing to expand my own knowledge of the sector. I find it interesting and potentially lucrative and if the opportunity came up to work with a lessor abroad i would jump at it. Anyone else out there have any similar thoughts? Curious to know what newly qualifieds out there are doing with themselves. thanks. k

You have probably already seen this but no harm in posting it:

    http://www.lawsociety.ie/Diploma_in_Aviation_Leasing_and_Finance_%28New%29.aspx

Also, join Linked in and stalk people in the position you want to be, it allows you to see how they got there - by essentially examining their CV's.

Also, the Law Society's website had an internship in aviation advertised in Malta a couple of months ago, google "aviation law internship malta" and it's the first result. Probably gone now but worth dropping the girl on the ad an e-mail.

Best of luck, it's tough going out there.

Thanks. I did see about the diploma. Obviously worth considering. As for the internship in Malta, I did enquire about that and the girl advertised that position was in my Blackhall class and said it was too junior a level for me. She is a very helpful contact though and I've been in touch with her quite a bit.

Interesting. Did she mention whether you would have been right for it if you had the diploma under your belt?
