    Hi,

A lady near where I live died, and mentioned a long time ago she would leave me something in her will.
She died about a year ago.

I know her nephew has got her house and land, but just wondering if she could have left me something.
Could he have been given something to give to me?, or should the solicitor have contacted me directly?

I dont really want to ask the nephew. And I don't know who her solicitor was.

Can I find out who the solicitor was who handled the Will (and contact him)and can I see a copy of it somewhere
She may well have left me nothing, but I'd like to know for sure, and don't really trust the nephew at all !!

Can someone advise exactly what steps I should follow?

    Thanks!

A will is a public document once it has been admitted to Probate so if this is the case, you can contact the Probate Office on Phoenix St in Smithfield in Dublin and pay a small fee for a copy of the will.

Thank you so much for your reply

Could you advise or would you know how the will process normally works and if you think it would be possible that I was left something in the will, but just not informed about it yet?

I've looked at the courts.ie website, and it seems quite confusing. Do you think it would be ok to ring them and ask them have they got the persons will on record and then see about getting a copy

    Thanks

Advice on how the wills process works probably won't be of any help to you as the timeframes can vary widely depending on the contents of the will, etc.

If the estate has not been administered, then it could be the case that you have been given something and not been told about it or maybe you may not have been left anything at all.

If you ring 8886000 and ask for the probate Office they will tell you how to get hold of a copy of the will if a grant of probate has issued. You will need the deceased's name, address and date of death to do get them to do an initial search and this involves a small fee also. Alternatively, you can attend at the probate office. There are some fees involved for the copy of the will and you will need to pay these at the Stamping Office in the Four Courts.
