    Hi,

This was posted in the Tesco thread, but I found an update today that I thought would be worth posting for those that don't follow the general Tesco thread.
Tesco currently have Georges D'Albot champagne on offer at 2 bottles for 25 euro. Do a search and you'll see the Irish Times mentioned it some time back, and rated it quite well (at that time at the "special" 20 euro per bottle price).
The original price is supposedly 39.99. I bought 6 to get the extra 5% off, but there was actually an error in the offer applied.
The item amount for each one shows up as 39.99 on the receipt, with the multibuys at the bottom - all normal of course.
    6x 39.99 = 239.94

    Now the multibuy discounts
First the 2 for 25 which is -164.94 (for 6 bottles)
Next the 5% off, which is actually off the 39.99 price, so comes up as 12 euro discount extra

So, 6 bottles for 63 euro!
This was at Tesco Oranmore, not sure about elsewhere.

Hope someone else benefits... pretty good for Christmas/New Year celebrations.

None in Wexford today, two places where they had them on the shelves were empty.

PS - this was €20.00 on "Special" up to last week, no way has this been original price of €39.99 for the last 28 days (which I thought it had to be to be a legal discount?) It's also not worth €39.99 but a good deal at 2 for €25.00

Agree completely about the 39.99 price. 20 euro wasn't bad, particularly if during one of their 25% off 6 bottles or more promotions. 2 for 25 is indeed a very good deal. Even better if you get the extra 15%-16% by the discounting error for 6+ bottles...

None in Tesco Finglas either, but manager said he "expects" to get them back in

Yeah went to tesco in finglas yesterday specifically for the champagne offer but could see no sign of it. I don't even drink champagne but I'm a sucker for a bargain.

Can anyone tell me what its like tastewise .. have a fondness for the Tattinger one (stock up when its on offer in Tescos also) so how good / nice is this one?
Would get the 6 bottles if its decent

I had about half a bottle of it at 4AM and it went down pretty well although I can't give a proper opinion as it was after a full day's drinking at a wedding. Plenty of stock in Parnell St where I got it on Thursday.

Very sweet and gassy says my wife, a champagne conosseur. She compares it to a prosecco. Decent at 2 for 25 but that's about it.

what qualifies her as a conosseur? More than she drinks a lot of champagne I hope

Definitely wouldn't describe it as sweet!!

It's more of an acidic fruity (appley) flavour.

It's very drinkable but no where near as good as Tattinger which I am also very partial to!!

I generally prefer a biscuity flavour ala Bollinger but that's out of my price range!!!:o

    But for €10.50 a bottle it's fab!!!

    Enjoy!:)

Thanks for the reviews guys ... think I'll wait for the Tattinger to come down in price again ... I don't drink an awful lot of Champagne but when I do I like to have something I like iykwim

The 28 day rule is not a legal requirement in Ireland. Here it is "reasoanble" time.

In any caes in the UK where it is a requirement, it just has to be availabel in one branch for that time - in furniture shops they usually have it in a catalogue in just on branch and then shout half price (nearly all furniture, carpet and tile shpp sales are scams)

In wine, tescos etc use "rrp" a lot. But they don't tell you they are the only importer or that it is a name concocted by their marketing dept - sorry tesco, but basic chilean or italian wine is never worth 13.99, but are ok at the false half price of 6.99

Same with this chamagne - do tesco really think people will believe it is better than heidseck? - It'll be fine, there's a glut in champagne so there are plenty of offers about and at 2 for €25 it is great value, but judge it as a 12.50 bottle, - if you think you are getting a 40.00 value, you'll be sorely disapointed.

I don't drink so I can't say what I think of it personally, but we opened one last night for a bunch of French friends and they all approved — not that being French necessarily makes you a connaisseur, either, but one of the guys does know his wines pretty well.

    Thanks for the spot, OP.
