Ok im looking for some information about the airbag light on the Mondeo Mk3 Year 2000-2001.

The brothers car failed the NCT because there was no airbag light in the main dash cluster, There is however an airbag light in one of the blanking panels over the radio ( It is a proper airbag light and functions as such ) However when he brought the car back to them today they told him that is for the passenger airbag only. I know the Mondeos I had did have and airbag light in the main cluster but mine were the facelifted models 2004-2005 and the cluster was slightly different.

Can anyone shed any light on the matter? He doesnt have the manual to check where that places the airbag light. In my opinion the light in the centre is the airbag light and even if it was only a passenger airbag light there is nowhere to turn it off. My understanding is that in the case of a the pass side airbag being switched off that the airbag light stays on or it will have a seperate light that stays on but doesnt do the self check (come on for a few seconds when ignition is selected )

So anyone here with one of these like to tell me where the airbag light should be ???

There should be a light in the cluster. The light on the dash is for the passenger airbag to show whether or not it is disabled.

Sounds like someone has blocked off the light in the past to hide a problem/pass an NCT.

Cheers. I'll whip out the cluster and have a look. Was sure the light in the middle was the one for the whole system.

My 04 Focus (and others of that era) have a problem in that the solder on the circuit board corrodes, and causes all sorts of problems with lights and needles etc. that are displayed on the cluster. Its possible that someone took out the bulb for the airbag light (to pass an NCT) because it was staying on all the time due to the problem mentioned above.

Maybe there is an actual airbag problem that caused the light to stay on causing someone to remove the bulb.

There were so many problems with ford focus instrument clusters that BBCs Watchdog did a tv program on it:

I bought a new cluster from fordpartsuk website. If you are having cluster problems you may be able to fix it on the cheap, but it will only last a while till problem re-appears. What you can do (google it for better info) is to clean the circuit board on the back of the cluster using circuit board/PCB cleaning aerosol (available from Maplins)and a brush. Dont spray too much on it at a time as it can freeze. Then when it is clean and dry, spray back of the circuit board with WD40 (I kid you not, its what the Bodgers recommend!).

The above may have nothing to do with your problem, and I may be leading you down the wrong path:confused:.

    Good luck.

The one by the radio is probably a passenger airbag light
