    Hi All

I have recently purchased a HUMAX FOXSAT and see some mention and links here regarding this Media Bundle from Raydon.

Could someone please explain in simple terms what the advantages are and if there are any downside to installing this software?

Can I get RTE onto the HUMAX in this way to record it?

    Thanks.

One of the key features of the Raydon bundle is that it allows you to insert non-Freesat channels into the Freesat EPG grid.

In an Irish context, this means you can potentially* integrate the Saorsat channels (NOT Saorview!) with the UK Freesat channels. However, you will probably be unable see get programme info for the Saorsat channels because of the way the Humax firmware is put together.

*"Potentially" because nobody has reported here testing this with Saorsat yet. However, it has been tested with channels on 19E for example, so there's no reason why it wouldn't also work for Saorsat channels.

Installed on mine, but I am only using Astra 2, so can't comment on other sats. It also allows you to stream recorded conent around the home via a router ( and homeplugs making it simple) and laptop or desktop computer, possibly even a smart tv.
You can set manual timers for non Freesat channels.
No downsides other than you need to update when a Humax firmware update is broadcast, but that's easy to do. A well sorted addition to the basic box.

What are the non-freesat channels that are worth adding to your epg. I'm running my Humax box off an old sky dish and I have my old sky box upstairs and I can't really think of any channels that I have upstairs that I don't have downstairs and want. The only channel I can think of is skynews.

"Channels that are worth adding" is somewhat subjective.

Typical examples might be Sky News on 28E, German channels for F1 coverage on 19E, English language channels on 26E, Irish channels on 9E.

Also, out of region ITV channels. As I use my old NI postcode to put UTV at 103, I added ITV1 HD and ITV1+1, STV and also Pick TV.

After tuning all of the Non-Freesat channels which are available to me (presume 28E / standard old SKY set-up), I would agree with this.
It does also provide me with the BBC Red Button channels as recordable channels however. Useful for qualifying on the weekends it's on the BBC.

you wont be able to set a recording from the epg though, with any of the added channels, try it and see what I mean.

No but you can do it manually from Scheduled Events on the web interface and can download your (SD) recordings for archiving/editing on your PC from the web interface too at excellent speeds.

I remember reading about it somewhere before on one of the UK sites.

Could someone please post a link to current version of this bundle.

Is the install fairly simple? via usb I presume.

Mainly interested in adding Sky News and a few other non freesat channels. The streaming could be bridge too far for me for now.

If you have a router in your home, the streaming to a pc is easy, believe me, if I can do it then anyone can, the developers have made it so simple.
I also added non-Freesat channels to the Freesat list, t's very easy, and I held off for ages, out of fear and ignorance, then just went for it, I was glad I did.

read here, and join the forum, they are very helpful and patient with newbies.

hi , i was wondering of you could help us with this.
we have the humax and the flashware but we cant get it to stream from the laptop to the humax.
we can speak to the humax and change the channels etc but we installed twonky but it asks for a license key to link with the humax.
so we cant get past that bit?

also be interested in getting the rte channels?
its the one thing that is annoying us.
too expensive to get a massive aerial and you would think a fecking satellite would pick it up!

Download VLC media player from here,

    http://www.videolan.org/index.html

and install it on your computer.

and make sure it has the plug in for your web browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome etc.) in it's checklist, it usually does. Turn Twonky off.
This will play your video content, but make sure you don't have a username and password protect on the Foxsat's web page, if you do, disable it.
    Works seemlessly for me.
You can only get, fta, RTE from Saorsat at 9e, but no TV3 or 3e there.
You need another dish and a Ka lnb, or a twin feed dish, and then lots of patience in re-configuring the Foxsat for diseqc and multisat control. Good luck.

    quick question.
on my humax , i used to be able to change the satellite but its now greyed out and says freesat28.2e.
is there a way to try and change the satellite and try to reach the 9e etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,189 ✭✭✭hawkwind23

i got into the "hidden menu" and did the search with eurobird 9e and found the rte channels but they are encrypted still.
am i doing something wrong? is it possible to pick these channels up?

To get Saorsat on 9E you need a special LNB. This needs to be pointed at 9East which is about 20 degrees off 28.2E.

The channels you got are probably on 28.2. You got them because you performed a blind scan and got hundreds of channels.

If you were on 9E with the right LNB you would only get the Irish channels, unencrypted.

is there no way that a fixed dish will pick that satellite up?

im doing another scan and it says EUROBIRD 9 9.0E - 11344MHZ,V,27500,2/3

again rte has the ND symbol beside it.

Have you a KA LNB on your dish? If not then you have no hope of getting it. There is another version of RTE on 28.2 but it is encrypted and you need a Sky ROI or NI subsciption card to decode it. On 9E with the correct LNB it is not encrypted.

yeah i think its not going to happen , im using a sky dish.
im not too clued up on what a LNB is but i doubt i have it.

one question , if i have a sky card , can i put that into the humax to decode the channels?

reason im asking is that i have a flat in belfast with an active sub to sky HD but i also spend half my time here in drogheda with the humax.
so can i take my card with me and use it in the HUMAX?

As it is not approved by Sky we cannot discuss that here. The legal way to get it is to sign up again in Belfast,

OR get a special dish with both 9E and 28.2. Most decent Belfast based installers should be able to install this for less than £200 once off. this will give you RTE1/2 but not TV3

OR wait until October 24th, then get a FreeVIEW HD box (not a freeSAT box like you have). Then using an aerial you can probably get RTE in Belfast. This service will not be launched until October 24th. It requires the right box and an aerial rather than a dish. You might get away with a cheap indoor aerial, but it depends on your location. Basically RTE is going to be on the HD version of Freeview in Belfast. (Channels 51,52 & 53)

    Hi Guys,

Would appreciate a little help please.

1st Im on software 4.0.9 (the latest one) and I wish to move non-freesat stations into freesat so that I dont have to go switching uttons on the remote to get to them.

I have the following sats, Astra 28, Badr 26, Astra 19 and Hotbird 13.

So I typed in my STB url 192.168. etc etc and it brought up the menu page. I then clicked on Channel Editor Icon and and changed some stations via a drop-down box from non-freesat to freesat and clicked save.

Is this all I have to do?

Also I cant find the latest thread on AVForums. The one I can find closed at end of July:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1599048-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-4-0-part-2-a-34.html

Anyone got the link to post end of July?

    Thank you

    Iba

When you have made your changes, click on the button "Save Changes" and follow the prompts This will re-boot the Humax. When that has done and the page re-loads (be patient) then click on the "Import Data from Foxsat"( again, follow the prompts) button and wait a while it will tell you when it's done. And that's it.
Let me know if you are successful in adding the foreign channels to your Freesat list, please, and if diseqc and recording work ok, you can help me out with this, I am considering doing the samewhen I get another diseqc switch and some quad lnbs.

    Hi Excollier,

Thanks 4 that - it works now, I didnt know I had to click on ''Import Data from Foxsat'' - so I did that and my stations from Badr etc are coming up as freesat. I guess that means Diseqc works but I never record so dont really know.

I then added my Arabic stations to a favourite list by using the remote - but I couldnt rename the word 'Favourite 1' to anything else

I use this place 4 diseqc switches and LNBs - he is by far the cheapest

Good- glad you got it sorted, hope you get the most out of what is a really well sorted machine, I certainly wouldn't be without mine now.
Easiest way to know if diseqc is working properly is just to change channels on your freesat list to one from another satellite. If it just changes without any fuss, then you have it sorted.
I'll be seeking some help from you in the near future.

    Hi,

I have the fox sat HDR and 80cm dish pointed at Astra and hot bird. Is it just a case of getting another lnb to get saorsat and would I need an additional cable run also? I think the current two come down the one cable.

    Many thanks,

    William

    Hi,

You cant get Saorsat with an ordinary LNB and saorsat is not on Hotbird nor Astra 28

If u want both Astra and Hotbird, I would get a Double LNB bracket and a Diseqc Switch and then you would only need one line coming into your STB

    Regards

working fine for the 3 channels.
Epg limited, only now and next recording available unless you schedule a time manually.
And at the moment have to switch to non freesat to view them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,576 ✭✭✭excollier

All non Freesat channels will be numbered in the 5000's and remain the same when added to the freesat channel list. You can't re-order them. if you use Raydon's software properly the you can add Saorsat channels to the Freesat list, so you never have to leave Freesat mode.

As an added extra now there is a new software patch to add to the HDR in addition to Raydon's firmware, that stops the HDR from encrypting the HD recordings made in freesat mode, and thus viewable on other media players (VLC or xbmc on computers) or other hd capable receiver/players. Previously hd recordings had to be made in non-Freesat mode to achieve this, which was inconvenient.(they could only be viewed by the particular hdr that had made the recordings) Now all recordings can be exported, not just the sd ones

    Thanks.

    Hey all,

I have my humax foxsat set up with saorsat and freesat through a diseqc switch with raydons software. when i transfer the saorsat channels over to the freesat side they line up 5001 to 5006 but there is no channel information with them. is it possible to even get now and next on the saorsat channels in freesat mode?

    thanks.

You most likely won't get any epg info in Freesat mode. But at least you have it working, saves you changing mode to switch to Saorsat. You can set manual timers for Saorsat channels.

Thanks, yeah it's grand i have it working as is but i was hoping to get now and next so i could flick through to see what's on without having to check the text.

but hey you can't have it all!!!!!!!!
