Removing Car Side Mouldings

    Hi guys,
I removed the side mouldings off the doorson my 2006 Toyota Corolla hatchback. Had no problem getting the mouldings off however I can't get the double sided tape off it. The mouldings will not be going back on so the tape has to come off. So far I've tried using a hairdrier, vinegar, petrol, bug and tar remover, wd40, boiling water and a pressure washer yet I still can't get it to come off. I got a can of De Solv It glue remover yesterday in halfords but thats not doing too much either. Has anyone here got any suggestions on how to get the tape off because I've been trying for two days now and made very little progress.
    Thanks
    Tommy

There's a thing you can get called goo gone I think it's on ebay not sure how good it is but is supposed to remove adhesive tape etc.

Have you tried thinners and a stanley blade?

Very very carefully use a flat blade to trim off the excess foam, then rub the excess off.

Forgot to say I've also use white spirits. It seems like I will have to use a blade however. I suppose if I'm carefull enough I shouldn't have a problem.
Thanks for the advice lads :)

If you wrap a little insualting tape around either end of a stanley blade it'll make a lil gap so you won't cut into anything.

Why are you taking the moldings off?

I heard these are good at removing adhesive and vinyl. Maybe there's a van signage company in your area that could do it for you?

They kept falling off on one side. Was different tape on that side which came off easily so I assume the car was crashed before I owned it. The factory stuff however is an absolute nightmare to get off. I'm taing them off because I think the car looks better without them :)

All glue is off :D few minor scratches on the paint but I need to do a few touch ups as well so time to paint it :) Car will be like a mirror when I'm finished the clay, polish and wax :)

Too late for you, but fishing wire is what i used to remove the sticky stuff under the mouldings. Then a good rub with white spirit, then a good soapy wash...

    Try some cutting compound

Tried that and sanding it. No good. I've painted that section and that didn't level it either. I wonder would it level itself when I lacquer it?

Just put the moldings back no. Im guessing the door was repaired badly or something

No chance of me putting the mouldings back after I've come this far. At worst case I guess I could use filler however I think I can level it with paint if I mask off the high area again. Helped a bit because I tried it already.
ActuallyI suspect that this is the factory side as this is the side that was so hard to get the tape off and was taped up all around the mouldings edges. On the other side the paint is level all over the door however the moulding were falling off here (were held on with way weaker tape and some sort of glue by the looks of it.
    I shall prevail yet :pac:

Even the best sprayers with proper equipment would struggle to paint a section like that and get it to match. That's why they spray entire sides of cars

And they shall call him Tommy

I had another attempt at levelling the paint so I taped off all the high edges with masking tape and sprayed two layers of color. Then I removed the masking tape and sprayed a third layer over the high edges and the low edges. After having a look at it there and its roughly 80% filled from what it was :D Nearly there :)

As promised I will post a pic once I finish. May not be until monday as there's rain promised here for tomorrow and I havn't got a garage to work in.

Even closer to finishing now :) leveling out nicely and color match is perfect. Job is now on hold until I get another can of paint :/

looks like it was painted and the mouldings where never removed, the only way to get rid of this 100% is to sand down the whole panel and feather out the paint edge and spray the whole lot
