    Hi,

Anyone got any experience of reactivating a UK National Insurance Number ? I've been out of the UK some 13 years but now going to work there again, wanna avoid emergency tax :o

Can I just hand the new employer the NI number and all shall be well ? Tax status has not changed in that time..

    Thanks for any help.

    FBP.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just give the employer the NI no.

But the NI only pays your stamp. It has nothing to do with your tax status. If you have no UK P45, then I'm afraid emergency tax WILL be deducted until the tax code is sorted out. Do you have a copy of your last UK P45?

Where is your local tax office? Give them a call and they might be able to advise.

Checked out online, can only phone, no way of emailing.. :( hope I can sort it before I get over, or at least minimise the disruption...

UK emergency tax is not like the Irish system..there will be very little difference in the tax paid

Your NINO doesn't deactivate just because you're not using it so you just give it to your new employer as ABajaninCork advised. You'll need to complete a P46 form which your new employer will give you or you can get one directly from HMRC. There used to be other forms where you advised HMRC that you had come to the UK but the P46 gives them all the info they need now.

There's no other formalities beyond that, other than waiting for your first pay cheque
