This is a breaking story which is just terrifying. A suspected British Family massacred, and a french cyclist. A little 4 yr old girl lay underneath her dead mother (suspected) alive for 8 hours before she was discovered by forensic scientists. Another 8 year old girl was found near the car with gun shot wounds and other injuries. What happened here? Some reports have mentioned a "bungled armed robbery". I really don't think it sounds like this at all, it sounds more like a professional hit. God love them all, and may they RIP and may those poor little girls find the help and support they will so badly need.:(

The Father has now been named on Sky News, the family are believed to be from Surrey. This is the strangest case and honestly reads like a movie plot, what the hell was going on in the French Alps.

It's pretty grim alright :( The Irish Times report has a heartbreaking line:
"She started smiling and speaking English as soon as a gendarme from the Chambery search brigade took her in his arms and got her out of the car," Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud told reporters.

This is horrific and obviously an execution. I cannot understand why the police did not look in the car straight away I understand they were waiting on the forensic experts to arrive but surely looking in the car would be the norm.
The little girl must have been terrified all alone for hours. I hope herself and her sister are both ok.

I'm sure they did look in the car and saw nothing move. The nature of the attack would have been evident to them and I imagine they would not want to tamper with a scene that would be referred to higher level officers/experts. It's deeply unfortunate.

It is just unfortunate, can't blame the police for being careful not to contaminate the crime scene, and they did check the scene with thermal imaging in fairness.

Good thing the girl hadn't been shot too though, imagine she died from loss of blood as a result of not being found quick enough?

I heard on the news there is a feud with the father and his brother over a will it seems to be a family thing.

I understand why they did not want to contaminate the scene but still surely checking for survivors is the number one priority. If it happened here there would be outrage over the way it was handled.
