No, you're kinda snookered unless you either drop the 2GB from your GPU requirement or the Ivy Bridge requirement from your processor. You can probably find some discontinued Sandy Bridge gaming laptops in that price band.

Bigger size laptop but if you got extra RAM http://www.crucial.com/uk/ it could be a contender

1600x900 is the screen resolution and the GPU is not as good as the one linked above from US .

It all depends on your son gaming needs .

I know you said "mainly be wired", but have you considered a desktop PC instead?

For a laptop, give a look at dabs because they have an easy to use filter on their stock of laptops so you can see what is possible with your budget.

Uhm, attempting to get those specs within European waters (oh wonderful VAT), at that price is gonna prove to be very difficult, unless you'd even consider refurbished ones. Even then, that won't be much of a good idea.

What occasions where the laptop won't be wired? Because if it's gonna be at one place for most of the time, a desktop might be more appropriate for that money and you'll get more performance for it too. Which means if your son games a lot, it's more likely he'll encounter less problems in performance when it comes to playing more demanding games.

If you're still intent on a laptop, I'd suggest either taking a notch down on those specs to fit the more realistic 700E budget or increasing the budget a tad bit more in order to get something of those specifications.

Okay thanks everyone. I will try get more funds. I'm gonna push into the 700 800 bracket. Can anyone find me anything in that price range. Would really like to get a lenovo. It would seem sensible to get 4 to 6 gig ram because that's cheap and easy to upgrade. And I'm not bothered by hard drive size. Failing that I would use a Samsung. Thanks again guys, great help around here tbh.

That Lenny is not bad specs wise based on your new hopefully budget

    Intel® Core™ i7-3612QM Quad Core Processor
    17.3" HD Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    1000GB HDD
    Blu-Ray
    Dedicated GT 630M 2GB Graphics

Shame about the screen resolution though
