    Hi
I need to replace a set of window hinges. The window opens out from the top and is bent to one side leaving a large gap at the moment. Hope i have explained this OK. Anyone know where i can buy one in Dublin or recommend some one to fix. I don't think its that hard to fix but could be wrong. Any help most welcome.
    Cheers

    Hi galwaydude18
    Thanks for your reply.
Here are the pics. the first if loaded in order is the gap which is there with the window closed. Then the hinge and just noticed the locking slider is broken so a pic of a good and bad one. They have broken before and i was able to change them between different windows.Went to local companies but no luck.
    Cheers

Have you tried ringing any PVC window companies to see can you get spares off them? I'm sure they would sell you spares. You won't buy the parts for a PVC windows in local hardware shops.

Have tried few local companies. No Luck. One company told me i would have to change everything because of the spacing. I changed them around so it was no big deal but need to start changing.i would have thought the spacing would not change that much, the windows are 13 years old.

I'm not sure to be honest about the spacing. I'm not that well up on PVC windows. Uk sure someone will be along shortly with more info than me. Sorry I can't be of more help

Me again. What is the best gear to clean the hinges as some are stiff with dirt? Afraid oil might damage any rubber.

Try Mila, they are in Baldoyle. www.mila.ie
Or Universal, they are in the Clondalkin area, dont have the Web-site.

    Thanks Martinn123.
Just had a super guy out from Fingal PVC Window Center sorted out everything. Great price too. The locking sliders are not the ones but very easy to modify. Problem sorted thank god. He told me to used the WD40 so thanks you are spot on.
    Cheers

    @!RAY

Could you PM me the name of the lad who was with you and contact details.

Have a similar problem as you have in your 1st picture and need to get sorted before the winter comes.

Seems that a few people have the same problem. Celtic Tiger building standards

In case it's of use to someone who finds the thread..

I replaced all the hinges in double glazed windows in my house with new items from http://www.handlestore.com/. I think it was something like £5 per set of hinges. Quality items, I was happy.

Common problem, i see it a lot. I know a lad who services finglas blanchardstown who can repair this for you but to be honest if you pick up the herald (shudder) you will see an ads section of various window suppliers who can fix this.

Is it hard to do and how do you know which hinge to get?

    Hi ronan45
Depends on what window and the size. The window i got done was upstairs and the guy said the type are the most difficult to do.It took him about 45-60 min.The way i look at it is if i dropped or damaged the window, what would it have cost me. The guy did a good job so happy days.

Is it possible to do the above with a PVC window?

Yeah, but you'll need to move the lock, and probably change the way the glass unit is packed (wedged in)

If the sash has steel reinforcement it will make it an awful lot harder.
