Thinking of buying a 2010 diesel mondeo and would appreciate any advice?

Forgot to mention that the 1.8 is a zetec model while the 2.0 is an edge model. Does this make a difference?

That does complicate things, Zetec is better equipped than Edge. Are these UK cars as Edge is a UK model? If so do your homework carefully.

What's your budget? Some of the 2 litres in the edge were 110bhp meaning a zetec 1.8 is more powerful.

My choice would be to go a year older and try a 2 litre diesel Titanium X as it's a far superior car than either of those. Comfortable, economical and not a bad steer, a little big for some but you seen get used to it.

The 2.0 litre even in 110bhp form had more usable torque than the older 1.8 TDCi and is more refined too.

2010 saw the Mondeo get a facelift and new range of engines, the 1.8 TDCi was replaced by the 2.0 TDCi (110bhp) briefly before the 1.6 TDCi was introduced. Edge is a very basic model too and lower spec than the Style offered here. Titanium replaced the Ghia and are slightly better speced than the Zetec, Titanium X is rare and still asking silly money. I'd hold out for a 2.0 TDCi (140bhp) Zetec.

From a bit of experience, I'll second the above.

The 140 horse 2.0 is a much nicer engine than the 1.8, stick to that if possible.

But more importantly, you really need Zetec spec or upwards or a Mondeo is a fairly grim car to own. It's not a particularly premium interior so a few toys really does make a difference. Zetec has pretty much everything you'd need bar parking sensors and nav (the 2008 model does anyway).

For the relatively small increase in price between Ford spec levels it really is shocking the amount of black door handles and hubcaps versions out there. Such a big car to cheap out on.

The edge I looked at was 140bhp. It was also an english import to a dealer so what should I be looking out for? The 1.8tdis seem to be more plentiful so are a mixture of Irish and English cars.

2.0 Titanium What a car, all the bells and whistle, as this is a big car it really needs that big engine, steer clear of 1.6 very prone to blowing the turbo (expensive to fix)
