Watch out Mallow

Hi, I know this has been done a few times but the last thread I found was pretty old.

So me and my boyfriend are moving to Mallow. Can anyone give me a few recommendations on the pub scene? :)

I've heard awful things about the place but like it surely can't be that bad :)

Were both 25, like a quite pint in nice place, like going on a major session every now n then :) like abita live music, like to play darts so is there any friendly kinda place that the locals would lets join in and have a bita craic :) We know nobody out there so that's the kinda vibe we'd hope for.

Best late bar? Also himself is complaining because we won't have the sports channels for now (we'll see if he's good) :p so anyone know a good bar to watch matches, premier league I guess, including the mid week games?

Any info is greatly appreciated as is any random helpful advice about the town :)

Albert Lynch's for your "local" and for matches
    The Lodge for live music
Not into late bars, but I think Marakibo and Chasers are your best bets.

I don't think you will enjoy the 2 late bars/night clubs seeing as you are mid twentys. It's your typical small town scene full of 18/19 year olds and often underage kids.

Haven't been to them in a few years but my younger brothers still occasionally go out on weekends home from collage. Anyone who has gotten used to night life cities tends to hate them, unless you are there with a big group of friends.

I know of a lot of people in their 40's and 50's that frequent late bars in Mallow.

There's a fair amount of 30-40 year olds that do be strutting their stuff in Chasers... whether they've still got it or not. They may never have even had it in the first place.

It's the drink that makes them believe that they have regained their youth :o Alcoholics the lot of them :D

Maureens in O Brien Street is a good one for the darts, horseracing etc and a friendly crew. No problem joining in for a game and they play in the town darts league with a number of other pubs. Jim Keefes, The Mouse Trap Bridge House Alberets are all friendly spots with good drink and sports on TV. The Lodge is out a bit but is good for the bit of live music.
There is a big GAA complex with gym. The town has a swimming pool, racecourse, golf course and very good rail links to Cork Kerry and Dublin.. etc.
As regards night life and clubs its the same as any provincial town with the one spot taking all comers and drink playing a major part in the club.
There are plenty other activities to get invovled in if you are willing, just check the Vale Star and The Corkman.

I've only heard good things about Alberts tbh. Chasers is your best bet for a late bar

The bar in the GAA complex would show a lot of midweek games alright, nice quiet spot to enjoy a game.

There used to be a cool little bar at the end of the mainstreet by the clock tower, there's a little lane up the right hand side of the clock and it was just there on the left, we used to have to odd one in there and always found it friendly and a bit different to the rest. Not sure if it's still there though!? We used to just go into the city to go out or had people out to stay with us from for weekends, there's not much happening in Mallow tbh.

Chasers is an absolute DIVE. If you do decide to go there, check in your coat, seriously. Some light fingered git made off with mine.
