Enquiring for a friend. He has an 08 Passat but the key he got with the car was just a standard key I think so has to be put in the door to open etc. Wheres the best place to pick up a full key. This is an image of the type of key he needs

tried a few places to get a key for a berlingo, everyone told me to go to citroen.
Then tried AutoKey on the naas rd dublin, had t cut and coded in 20mins

100 euro for a key without the central locking

    180 with central locking

Presume from what he said to me that he has the key but not the central locking etc. Just told me he needed one like the one I linked to

If you got one like this from eBay could you get a new blade and have it programmed? Presume the dealer would have to programme it.

Will tell him to give them a shout. Cant see the key on their website. This site seems to say you have to go to a dealer

This is how what a passat ignition looks like

    imagelonx.jpg

Yu put the key in, push it and the car starts.

Curious as to how the car starts if he only has a key blade for the door?

Got him wrong. Was wondering myself so rang him. Its a spare he's after! He was told that if he picks one up on eBay he can get it programmed by a dealership. Couldn't see a problem with that but any on eBay I seen have already been cut so need a new blade and not sure if they'd do that as well

Not an option, these keys come partially programmed to vehicle and need immo matching on the car.
Only thing you can get non Genuine is a mechanical door key

I've a question on the same theme.

The key ring eyelet on my '06 passat key fell off (same type of key as the OP's), so I bought a new blank blade which is the bit with the eyelet on it on ebay for a fiver.

I just tried the key with the blank blade in it and it opens the central locking and starts the car no problem although I didn't try driving it yet.

So the question is what exact function does the cut blade fulfil? I don't see any key barrel on the car where it could be used.

I only ask as I don't know if I should carry the cut blade with me or is it safe to leave it at home? I don't want to be left stranded miles from home!

All the cut blade does is provide physical access to the car if there's a problem with the coded fob. It's just a dead piece of plastic, so obviously it's not going to have any effect on whether your car starts or drives. You don't need any blade in the fob in order to operate the car.
