ipod broken? coffee damage

I spilt coffee on my ipod, it was lying in such away that the port at the bottom would have been exposed.

I left it drying on my car dashboard, into fridge, car dashboard (as it's warm) etc

That was Saturday, now when i plug it in the apple logo displays for a second, then off for a second, keeps doing that. A couple of times when i leave it for ages I get the charging please wait message (As in if i haven't plugged it in for hours).

I suspect my battery is gone, but can't be sure. Don't want to open it up as i wrecked a previous one trying to take the cover off, never got it back together right!

Is my best option to buy a second hand classic for €100 or so on done deal/adverts? and sell my one for spares on ebay? or what would people advise doing? Will those repair shops with free evaluation post them back if I don't want their offer? I live in the Longford/Westmeath area so a walk in shop in dublin isn't really an option, as I won't be up there for a while.

I would say it's absolutely bolloxed at this stage. Leaving into dry naturally would let corrosion get on the parts and the coffe wouldn't help either
