lads i have read alot of the forums the last few nights and there seems to be alot of ranting going on about people shooting at high birds and not hitting them , now unless im mistaken , the only reason anyone can be sure this takes place is if there out with people who do this , makes sense to say it to them and tell them there fcuking muppets maybe . anyone shooting at Birds knowing all they will do is injure them and not drop them for a safe retrieve really shouldnt be shooting .AND BEFORE ANYONE GETS ON THERE HIGH HORSE I MEAN LONG DISTANCE SHOTS

People shoot at birds and miss them all the time  so what? and if you have a dog that won't retrieve an injured bird its time you got a new one.

dont think either of you are getting what im saying . its not about how good your shooting is its about people going out who cant shoot for **** and doing more harm than good . firing at birds that you have more chance of hitting with a plane

I see what you mean now your talking about lads fireing at out of range birds that anoys the bollox out of me too, a high bird to me is a bird that you have to be on the ball to hit but is in the dropping range i have seen lads fireing at ducks that looked like dots in the sky fools they are every sport has them

People should know their range when out shooting its very disapointing seeing lads who only come to shoot at birds from all distances and angles and not realising that all there doing is driving the birds from the area.

This all as happened over the pass few years where I hunt and in a space of a few weeks when the wigeon arrive in late October my hunting area can be over shot from lads who fire at least 4 shots to high at duck in big flocks. Its destroys the shooting for the rest of the people who have a bit of respect for their qurray.

I shoot for the pot and to make money from selling game. I would always take a low flying than take an impossible high shot.

Your shooting out of necessity so, because your poor and starving, Faaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnntastic.

There is a fine line between a high bird and an out of range bird. Whether you're a good or a bad shot, taking a pop at an out of range bird is just reckless in my view and can only mean the shooter has little regard for the welfare of his quarry. On target and out of range means pricked which results in either painful recovery or slow death for the bird.

I think most will agree, a sporting shot is not too close, challenging (fast or twisting or both) and within range.

I guess the high bird hype is a factor of driven shooting where the only way to make tame birds challenging is to put them high enough above the guns.

The effective range of a shotgun no matter what the load is 50 yards anything further and you have no respect for your quarry! anyone frequently wounding or pricking birds should really rethink there timing and shot taking. any injured birds should be dispatched humanely asap.

It's all about knowing your range, no point in firing at something 60 yards away all your doing is scaring them.

Anything from 10-50 yards is worth a go in my opinion, if I get them I get them if I don't I don't, simple as.

m8 i dont really agree.the aim on a driven shoot is to get the birds flying high.you could pay thousands for a shoot with good high-flying birds in the u.k

Anyone have any experience of Hull Cartridges? What are they like in 36g 4 and 32g 6 does anyone know? Your man in Laois sells them and Im inclined to buy off him.
Time to load up for the new season and finding the Eley are getting way to pricey.
