As it was nearing the end of the journey - there were 4 stations before that at which people would have alighted.

At least they were probably paying actual fares, there was a program about the western corridor train a few months ago and virtually everyone on board was a pensioner on a day out, most of them were seen on camera munching sandwiches they brought themselves so there weren't spending a penny with IR.

There use to be a total of 8 passengers on the WRC line but that figure should now be down to 6 taking into consideration the recent 25% reduction in passenger numbers. :p

Thats just muck raking and slagging off the WRC for the sake of it

EVERYONE knows it was 9 passengers per train...

Does the fact that you can legally get as many passengers in a taxi make this service redundant? http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0903/train-hits-vehicle-at-level-crossing.html Surely IE need to rehink their transportation strategy?

Why not have a nice day out and go down to the stations and protest then.

That's absolutely shocking, given that there is no catering on Limerick - Galway it is disgraceful that people brought sandwiches with them.

    How very dare they!

Ah there are excellent toilet facilities on Irish Rail's WRC services. Of course they spent a penny!

You mean a bunch of elderly people ACTUALLY USED THE TOILET on the trains running on the WRC?

My God, this country is fúcked.

Couldn't agree more, gratuitous use of toilets by pensioners on the Western Rail Corridor and the Limerick - Ballybrophy line is a Thunderbox Disgrace I tell you!

What the hell is wrong with using the jacks on the Limerick - Ballybrophy train on the WRC?

Does anyone know the type of train that was used at the time?

You would rather that the train run empty back to Limerick as a "deadhead" and lose even more money?* That's the only other option for it, other than to run on the Dublin-Cork line as a reverse-peak commuter train. Or you can spend extra money for a storage track at Ballybrophy, which I suspect nobody would want to do. Was the train full enough running the other way as the 16:05 out of Limerick Colbert? Surely people need to research operations instead of merely making cursory glances.

Why was it running through Birdhill at 8 pm, when the timetabled stop was to be at 7:46 pm?

    * Buses do this as well. How much money do they lose doing that? or do they get to write it off?
