Has anyone applied to the FSI careerstart courses that are part of the springboard courses?

Has anyone done these in the past and which one of the two have they done? They claim that there is a strong chance of getting employment on completion of them - just wondering what peoples opinions are of them.

I did one last year - good quality tuition but alas I did it in a field where age discrimination is rife . I saw other students with crap academic results getting internships ( unpaid mind you ) while I could not get even an interview - they were 10 or 15 years younger than me. Even the jobs facilitator agreed it was age discrimination at work.

1 year on and a few of my class got jobs in the area the course was training folks in but the majority are either working in completely unrelated fields ( like myself ) or still unemployed having finished their placements with no job offers resulting.

I was annoyed to learn the couse I did is being run again and older students are not being told how hard it will be.

Got and accepted an offer for an FSI Careerstart. Meant to start in October this year.

Two people I know did one of their courses in funds. Both of them are now empployed, one with BofA and another with StateStreet. They both seem to have enjoyed the course and found it very helpful.

That is very disheartening, what hopes do older unemployed people have as this type of discrimination seems rife.

Were the internships during or after the course? The website says there are placements during the term?

The end date for applications is next week, Im still undecided whether to apply. I am meeting with FAS on Friday so I will get more details on it from them.

    Hi Smurts,

My other half did the fund cert two years ago (which was the first run of the scheme I think). He had some previous experience in the area but it had since gone stale after being unemployed for about 2 years.

He did a three month unpaid work experience through the it and is permanetly employed by this company now. Like many others, all he needed was a foot in the door to show his ability and this scheme provided that.

I think this is different to the Springboard courses as its run by IBEC but I'm open to correction.

If nothing else you'll get a new qualification for your CV, possibly some new work experience on your CV and hopfully a new job.

    Best of Luck. :)

Currently 32. Also doing a level 8 in Finance, and have been offered a job when I start the Springboard course.

Working in a fund company, not sure as to what it involves. Primarily related to my degree course, but also with the Springboard course.

Think it depends on the modules, and the course (A - Certificate or B - Diploma). Think there is an induction tomorrow, but will have to check emails

Think I ended up being enrolled in the wrong course. I had originally applied for the IBEC course, but ended up on the UCD/Institute of Bankers University Diploma. I'm already doing my final year (p/t) in a Finance degree (Level 8). Also have to learn German, which was not mentioned on the Springboard course prospectus - there was no prospectus and little detail when I applied.

since you are in a finance course you may get some exemptions due to (RPL) recognised prior learning. I have a business degree too but would hate to go over all that economics stuff again thats in the diploma, once is enough.

I applied for 6 exemptions. Marketing, Financial Accounting, Management Decisions (Management Accounting), Micro and Macro, amd I can't remember the last. Will have to talk to them tomorrow

    Thanks a mill'.

Just wondering how everyone got on last year? Did ye get jobs out of it? I got a place for this year. I am from Galway so would be travelling to Dublin. I would be investing a lot of time and money so need to make sure it is worth my while. Any info would be appreciated.
