I get tv signal from maghera here in clare using an indoor high gain aerial with 2 boosters, big trees all round but yesterday I switched all off and got a DTT signal of 30% and pictures but will that go in bad weather? ie lose signal. Signal with one booster is 65% and with 2 its 80+.

It would be nice to do away with boosters. And I don't want to put aerial on chimney. Or is there a specific aerial for Maghera?

According to Saorview all transmitters away from the border are running at full power.

If your indoor aerial isn'tt pulling in the signal now an attic or outdoor aerial may be required.

the aerial is in the loft, i may give it a tweak today, at least i know now i am on max power.
is there a specific aerial or will my existing high gain for uhf suffice ie i cant improve on it??
    thanks

The position of the aerial within the attic could have a huge difference on the amount of signal it receives. Objects within the loft might influence reception.

The best advice is to move it around and see. What has your analogue signal been like?

If you're using a wideband aerial, a frequency grouped one would provide more gain (group C/D for Maghera). If you're having to use excessive amplification just to get above the signal level threshold, then you're fighting a losing battle.

This article is worth a read (you will note it also places emphasis on the point made by marclt about positioning being all-important).

    2 things

The signal percentages. Are they strength or quality readings?

    And

I'm assuming by indoor aerial it's one of those set top aerials you can pick up for a few euro.

I'm in Ennis using a mini log periodic from satellite.ie works great in my attic. Great signal even when wiring it up and it was just lying sideways on the ground.

<In July of this year, RTÉ Transmission Network Ltd applied for planning permission to erect a 160m high guyed mast with associated stay blocks and equipment attached, including an adjustment to the existing access route at the RTÉ Broadcasting Station at Maghera.
As a consequence of the new mast, they also looked for planning to remove the existing 147.5m high guyed mast and stay blocks at that location.> Clare Champion 4/9/12

This may help your reception problem or maybe it means transmitting over a wider area. In the midlands we are supposed to receive RTE fm stereo signals from Maghera, signal yes, stereo no.

thanks all, now sorted, readings are 84signal 94quality on an edision argus mini and its 73s 100q on a humax. I moved aerial just a little bit!!

Planning permission was applied for back in July 2009 (File# 09763). The tender was awarded back in 2009 also.

Work on the mast was to be completed by the end of 2011. I don't think there'll any further improvement in coverage or power.

I should have trusted my memory, I remember reading about this last year. Thanks for the info.

This is the cause of my confusion.
