Why does RTE regularly go off the air in the Mt Leinster area, seems to be mostly in the mornings.

Or maybe they just want to spare the good people of Leinster the insulting humour of the John Murray Show.

    Very decent of them too.

Lets hope they extend a silence between 9 and 10 nationwide before long.

Or at least replace it with something worth listening to on either of their main stations.

Its all to do with work commissioning the new tower on Mt Leinster.

New antennas have been or are being installed for all services, and when they changeover there need to be outages, or when measurements are being taken on new systems the site needs to be dark.

Some independent services have been carried temporarily from Total Broadcast's high site nearby during the outages, but RTE services are off totally while this happens.

RTE have many sites that are rebroadcasts of Mt Leinster, like Waterford, Suir Valley, Gorey, so when Leinster is off, these are off too.

    A.
