    Hi Folks

Can anyone recommend a good BMW service provider? Would like to use a BMW garage if possible but doesn't have to be. Looking for good quality and a good price of course!

    Cheers

I bring mine to Murphy & Gunn in Rathgar. No complaints.

You will of course find better prices from independent mechanics, but if its a main dealer service you're looking for, you can't go wrong with the guys in Rathgar. Milltown is probably fine too, although I haven't had my car serviced there, they did fix a seatbelt issue and diagnose a differential fault on the spot after I drove in.

What model BMW is it and whats your location?

Any decent independant garage will give you the same level(better in some cases) of service then a BMW garage and will have dealer level diagnostics etc too.

If you car is any of the later models(e90, e60 etc) then giving an idea of price is difficult as the on board CBS system dictates what service items are due so without knowing that ballpark pricing would be impossibe.

Paying main dealer prices on a 9 year old car will be a waste of money and add no value to the car. Find yourself a good indy.

I find Niall in ISA Autos in Blackrock good, and fairly priced too.

    Slightly OT...

    I've got a 4YO 320d. Main dealer or indie?

If it's out of warranty then a good indy for most work. The exception might be the standard oil service - sometimes the main dealers do good deals on these, and you also get the stamp.

Had swirl flaps removed by one of the guys that works there. I suggest you also have that done if it's not already done.

Got a quote for some.simple.work from these guys and it's was off the wall expensive...more so than a main dealer. Getting it done for less than half what they quoted, so price around !

OP, you could try automec.ie, says he's a BMW/mini specialist, comes to your house or work to do the service and is well priced. I haven't used him yet but will be doing so soon as I've heard he is good.

George Dalton for me and my BMW.
Top class service, honesty and reasonably priced.
A pleasure to deal with and you know that your car is in safe hands.

how long ago was this and for what type of work?

about 3 weeks ago, needed the serpentine/alt belt replaced along with a wheel bearing on a mini. Depending on what parts I wanted used I was quoted between 495 and 605(dealer parts).

Rang Frank Keane after and he was a decent bit cheaper than the cheaper price quoted above. Rang a local indi and was quoted 280.

Parts come to about 160(micks garage) and labour would be 1.5 hours so how I was quoted 605 is beyond me! Nice guy I was chatting to there though, but not nice enough to justify that price!

could have been Richie, yeah like you say, nice to deal with, but their prices are just OTT, its not the boom anymore, you can just charge what you like... another thing i noticed when using them was, even if the car is 10 years old i.e worth SFA, they would still want to use OEM parts etc, sometimes 1 or 2 jobs could come to the value of the whole bloody car!

That's Richie from AC Car Sales? There was a time when I would have recommended his work highly, but it was a few years back now.

I've used Bloomfield Garage (formerly AC Car Sales) on two recent occasions. As already stated, Alan and Richie are sound blokes, the work is top quality but they are quite expensive.

I wouldn't recommend either of the above. Used both a few years ago and found them to be pricey.
