    The reason it most likely wont stay up is more likely a pressure problem than it being broken.

    You can buy a new low pressure one or get a womens hair bobbin and tie it up,

    Bath mixers are a nightmare to replace, most are made up before the bath is fitted, which makes it almost impossible to remove due to inaccessability.

    I would say the valve won't stay up because either, it's seating is damaged/cracked or the washer is worn/torn.
    This can easily be replaced if you get the correct one, which isn't so easy.
    But you can take out the existing one and examine it without turning off water.
