Need advice on trading 2 cars for 1

    Hi All,

I have two cars and I want to trade both to get a different car for myself.

I have a 02 Renaul Vel Satis 2.0 petrol with 103,000 miles on it NCT'd till August 2013.

I also have a 03 Opel Astra 1.4 petrol with 150,000 miles on it NCT'd till July 2013.

Basically I'm looking for a different car for myself, Being a girl, I would love a little Mini Cooper or Mini One, a 02 0r 03 model would be fine with me.

Does anyone know of a garage or someplace that would do a straight swap for me, kind of 2 cars for one?? Or would I almost definately have to have cash up front. I have the Astra in a garage for sale at the moment but I can take it at any time if I want.

Just looking for some advice, I've never sold or bought a car by myself before (in the big bad world by myself for now).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No hope of getting a straight swap or anything close, sell at least one of them privately.

    .

I can't see any dealer going for that, I certainly would not. The Vel Satis were impossible to sell a few years ago (back in 06 a guy I know bought a 03 one for about 8000, even though they were 30-40k new). Also the Astra with 150k miles would not be attractive. On the other hand, a 02 or 03 Mini would be very easy to sell if priced right. If I were the dealer I'd hold on to the Mini for a straight sale.

I don't think I would even swop those two for a car that I had in stock for 2 or 3 years that I couldn't shift. And if I did, I'd want both cars for the price of one, so I'd only have to sell one to break even (chances of selling both would be very low).

Not what you want to hear but that's a dealer's perspective on what you are proposing.

Your only real hope is to try and sell the cars privately and buy the Mini straight. But to be honest not downing your car a petro Astra would be a hard car to sell privately never mind the fact it has 150k miles. The val satis aren't popular either. So even if you could sell both cars privately you would probably still have to put money to it to get a decent mini. Not downing your cars just saying the current market is not looking for cars like this. If they had been diesel with lower mileage then they would be very sellable. But by all means you will sell them privately but the money you get for them wont be great unfortunately.

Your probably right as out of the two the Renault would be the most interesting to the garage. So sell the Astra private as that would be of no interest to any garage and see how you get on might be worth just advertising the Renault just to see if there is interest. As a couple a weeks ago we had a car sitting in the hard and I decided to put it up not expecting it to sell at all. Within 4 hours 4 phone calls people were banging down the door to buy it and gone the next day. Advertise bot push the Astra and if the Renault sells in that time all the better if not just trade in the Renault. The worst that can happen is you lose 5 euro putting the ad for the Renault on donedeal. Best case you sell both cars. Best of luck
