RTE streaming mix up

I have 2 Internet radios, both Roberts Streams, one at home and one at work. Over the past few days RTE Radio one is transmitting 2fm on both radios (so it isn't radio specific). The display still reads Radio 1 but the content is 2fm.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks for this Donal..
Here is a brief explanation as to what is going on...For years we ran only streams in the WMA and RA format, these are now legacy formats and have always been very inefficient codec’s as you probably could hear listening to a music service @32k WMA or RA. We have now rolled out mp3 via Icecast streams. The reason we chose this format is that they would be the lowest common denominator format for devices. Pretty much all mobile devices and internet radio devices will handle mp3 progressive streaming via icecast. (that said mp3 is a rather ancient and inefficient format now but it works, and its audibly better than WMA and RA by a country mile!)

We did all the research we could with device manufacturers, streaming directory hosts, chipset manufacturers and mobile device operating system specs and they all support this format. (We run a number of other proprietary device formats in addition to this that stream via flash etc to support our apps)

Here is our list of streaming URLS for internet radio devices for each station which are

The change has been outlined to all the major internet radio listing operators a fortnight ago and they all have confirmed their respective changes

    They are

    · Vtuner
    · Frontier Silicon
    · Pure
    · Reciva
o There are actually scores more of them as some devices just use their own proprietary listings such as Orange Telecom in France and Telstra in Australia, not to mention all the Chinese devices that are on the market now that are running their own listings.

Its a tricky world as some devices manufacturers such as Roberts use Vtuner for some of their range and FS for others so issues can be tricky to isolate. In addition to this the directories are open source and anybody can submit links to them some bogus some in good faith so its a constant job making sure they are all up to date. However in respect of the current issue, since it appears to be improving over time without anything being changed its pointing toward DNS propagation throughout the internet.

In addition to this there is a further issue ongoing which I am hoping to have resolved by the end of today. It would appear that some of the third party directories that have updated their database have mixed up RTE Radio 1 and RTE 2FM. I have subsequently contacted them requesting this to be rectified.

I hope all this makes sense. Its a tricky world and it can be very hard to pick this apart as there are so many third parties involved. Unfortunately though one way or another the poor listener is getting short changed. While the streams leaving the campus here in Donnybrook are resolving and correct it would be wrong of us to leave it at that, and say we have done our bit. Ill chase all the contacts I have until we get this sorted.

I Hope this all makes sense,

    Regards

    Dave

I am in the same boat no rte 1 our premier listening station is still not available for about 10 days. I have been on to pure and Dan Hardy has informed me that it is rte who changed the system. As we do not get very good Fm in the kitchen, our streaming rte was availed of. Have a Roberts radio which uses the reciva portal....no problem and likewise with Tunein app on the iPad. Seems strange that the other Rte stations are available but not Rte 1 on the Pure or Sensia system

Don't mean to hijack but Dave will we ever get RTE Radio 1 offering 32 or even 24kbps so data on mobiles can be conserved?

Good question, seems to have been all over the place since 25th ish. The RTE app on my Asus t700 hasn't been able to lock in the stream and my Axis internet radio has been just hanging on 'buffering' but the player on a pc is delivering, or has been since yesterday.

Now, this morning, the Axis is picking it up since about midday Irish time, but still nothing on the Android app.

Does anyone know where/how to make contact with the steaming/internet part of RTE? I have been having some real probs with the TV streaming for a few weeks but cannot get any reaction by emailing RTE.

RTE is back down again. This morning there was a completely different (English) channel in it's place. I have PM'ed "RTÉ Pulse: Dave" above and written to them directly but to no avail. It really is an appallingly casual attitude from a state broadcaster.

+1 me too, wrote to the same Dave, no reply yet. You get the impression that the whole streaming/internet thing was set up as some sort of automated facility and the programmer has left!!
