I'm starting in a Big 4 firm in October and I was wondering how does asking for time off for a holiday work? Obviously I won't be asking straight away but my friends are thinking of going on a holiday in February so would it be possible to use a week of my holidays then?

When I was a trainee in FS audit we were told no holidays (bar maybe an odd day) from Jan to end March. I am now a Manager and its still no holidays from mid Jan to end March. So unlikely.

Ring one of the HR assistants and say that your friends are thinking of booking and you thought it best to run it by them to see if it is possible. They won't think you are being cheeky and will give you the answer you need.

Thanks I thought that might be the case. I'll wait until when they're booking and I'll ring them then.
