    Hi there,
I have the chance to buy a 1l '03 Swift with service for around €2000, very low genuine mileage (~30k, I know the original owner), anyone know if this is a good deal for a first car which will see mostly city driving? Or anyone have some experience with the car itself in general? Will probably be heading up to test drive it on saturday, but would like to get a general consensus on them before I go. Cheers.

I'm guessing its the old model, €2k is probably an OK price for a 2003 reliable car, but its basically the same car that was launched in 1992 and the one big downfall is its safety. I wouldn't want to be in an accident in one.
I wouldn't see it as a bargain, you could get a 2001 Yaris in good shape with low mileage for 2K and it would be a much better car.

They were actually launched in 1988 and didn't change much until it was replaced by the new model in 2005. Safety features are non existant other than perhaps a driver's airbag on later models. They really are from a different era but the mechanics are simplistic.

I can't see a valid reason to buy that car for 2k.

For 1k, it may worth to buy for low tax/ low fuel consumption ,etc.

For 2k, it is so uncomfortable and unsafe in comparing to alternatives.

I would look for a yaris for that money even it is higher mileage or older. Much more safer and running costs are similar.

Agree with everything said, but they are supremely reliable and so easy on petrol

There is more to a car than being easy on juice and reliability.

I for one would like something that has a bit of comfort (the Swift from that vintage has no comfort whatsoever), some power (the Swift is anything but) and I would definitely like something that has a bit of safety.

A Yaris will do the cheap running costs and reliability bit just as well as the Swift but at least they had a four star safety rating, although Paddy spec cars did not have ABS until 2003, which is a big safety omission in my book. Still, it will be a safer option than a swift. It will also be more comfortable as well. The newer model Swifts are very good cars, but as others have said, the cars from that era were basically the same model that first saw the light of day in 1989.

If the OP is after a Suzuki from that era, best to go for the Ignis - they came out in 2000 but will be much safer (and nicer) because it's a much more modern design. That said, the Ignis is not a particularly good car either, but at least it will be some way safe.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm not after a suzuki in particular, just had the opportunity to look at one, but I'm now looking at donedeal for a yaris after suggestions here.
