    I am a novice when it comes to these sort of things, but hopefully someone out there will know what these are.

    Thanks,

    Stephen

    I would hazard a guess that it is plaid brooch for a piper's kilt.

    Edit: These are referred to as Tara Brooches, because of the similarity in design. Pipers in Irish regiments in the British Army use this design too, though clearly the one on the right in your photo is Irish Army (Republican or otherwise).

    These are also used by the Irish Army Bands and are usually larger than the ones worn by civilians.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
    The broach on the right appears to be a very rare "Daughters of Ireland" broach. One sold sometime ago at an auction in Dublin for a couple of thousand Euro but I'm not sure that you'd get that price for it now. Still looks to be a nice piece. Is there a Dublin makers detail on the rear of the item?

    Heres the link to that badge;

    Not sure about the other one though sorry.
    There are lots of variations of these broaches on the market, check out ebay as a reference as you can usually find nice turn of the 19th/20th Century Irish made broaches in silver/brass for sale by jewellery dealers on there.
    I can also see the ribbon from a 1966 50th Anniversity 1916 medal in the bottom of your photo. Are these broaches part of a larger group?

    Thanks for the info guys. I can check the next time I am working with the items to check for maker marks.

    well spotted, the ribbon is a 50th anniversary of the Easter rising medal. Not in the picture is also a named Easter rising medal and fianna na heireann items. The rising medals and other items, as far as I am aware are not related.

    Thanks,

    Stephen
