Third Language

Hello :) Was posting in the LC Forum but decided this would be more suitable.
Basically I don't have a third language, and want to do CS & IT in NUIG. A third language is not listed in the entry requirements, but my careers teacher said that I still need it to "get in the door" of the college as such, even though its not listed in the entry requirements? Can someone explain or clarify? Thanks :P

    Your careers teacher is wrong.

Haha love the blunt reply! :D
    Are you positive though?

Yeah i've noticed that but she said it doesn't matter, I still need a third language to even enter the door of the college, even if its not listed as a requirement.

How do people become career guidance teachers?

Career guidance teachers in Ireland would be better off not being there at all. They are, for the most part, incompetent. If it's not in the entry requirements, then it's not required. The CAO works like a computer, it's black and white. the entry requirements are the entry requirements. If you meet them, good. If you don't, then tough. The CAO don't care if you've walked on Mars or mastered 37 languages along with Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

edit: unless it's a private college, then they might look at each persons individual credentials.

I'm starting 1st year Science in NUIG on Monday and I didn't have a third language. It wasn't one of the entry requirements. Your teacher is misinformed.

    Or, indeed, uninformed.

I'm pretty sure they removed this requirement in recent years. Not in my day! :P

Science and engineering courses dont require a third language in NUIG. When it comes to college it's best to talk to someone who actually went to the college and knows about it rather than "careers guidance teachers". I think they just tell you to have a third language so you have more choice when it comes to going to college instead of saying you dont need a language for a certain area and then you change your mind.
