What year is your e46? It's not a straight swap if your car doesn't already have the LEDs. The facelift in ~01 gets the LEDs, but it wont fit straight to the older style lights. I looked into this a while back, and decided it wasnt worth the hassle.

its 2000 coupe pre-facelift model. with replacing the rear lights its the whole unit that has to be replaced.. or so i thought?

You can replace the whole unit, but there's more to it than that. I think you need to buy conversion kits, and then you have the hassle of dealing with the on board computer telling you that all you're rear lights are out all of the time. This is the case for most conversion kits as far as I know. I don't have them, but looked at installing them on my car and decided it just wasn't worth it.

People wont 'give these' away unfortunately you will be looking upwards of 120 Euro for a set depending on quality.

You can buy originals and have you LCM reflashed to take the new lights. The alternate is to get an aftermarket kit which come with a preconfigured plug and play box that dupes the car into thinking everything is as was.

I bought mine from ebay and they are still perfect 4 years on, ive sold the car on and the guy has no issues with them.

these say plug and play alongside compatible models

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E46-3-SERIES-COUPE-RED-CLEAR-LED-STYLE-REAR-LIGHTS-/320735057546?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Plat_Gen%3AE46&hash=item4aad4c968a#ht_1326wt_1370

it also says will not fit OEM LED models so that indicates that is has the resistor style box. As for the quality of them i cant comment either way.

    or smoked

Might put them on my list of upgrade. Damn they're pretty expensive, maybe there's somewhere that wont screw you on postage costs.

Thats around what i paid as fair as i recall. OEM ones will set you back more tbh. But they do make an instant change to the car. fresher.

You could also check the postage to UK prices, and use that new blue box pick up service, i think they are doing some sort of new members offer so you could probably slash postage massively

can be gotten cheaper from ebay germany, you can also make an offer on these, saving another few quid, they are very easy to fit, put them on my old prefaclift car i sold nearly a year ago. they are easy to install and plug and play... if you dont want to do it yourself op, i reckon bloomfield motors etc would do it...

Hi OP, did you source rear LED's for a decent price in the end?
