Has anyone noticed that the dosage has changed on calpol recently? (the 2+ sugarfree bottle anyway)

For 1 - 6 year olds it used to be one to two 5ml so 10 in total if giving 2 spoons. The instructions on the one I bought last week are now only one 5ml for 6 - 24 month olds, then 5ml + 2.5 ml for 2 - 4yrs and two 5mls for 4 - 6 yr olds. The strength of paracetamol seems to be the same in both so can't figure out the reason for the change.

We have always given our daughter 10ml since she was one - wondering now should we have been doing this? Will be asking in pharmacy next time I'm in, just wondering if anyone knew more about it?

Yes, the dosages changed at the end of 2011. They have defined new dosage bands, rather than having a one size fits all for the 1 to 6 group. This was on the advice of the drug regulator in the UK, and ireland followed suit.

Thanks for that! Had me quite confused. Presume there is no issue then with having given a 1 year old what is now a 4 yr old dose!!

A lot of things like that changed late last year, other stuff went from 2+ to 6+ a a few things disappeared off the market.

Calpol doesn't do "per kg" doses?

I was thinking the same thing Ivy. All medications for babies and kids here are per kilo doses. Much easier :)
