supplementary welfare payment/also entitled do dole payment self emloyed

Hi, I work on part time contract basis.I went on maternity leave last year and was awarded a reduced maternity benefit payment(self employed).There was approx 2 1/2 months after my maternity benefit finsihed before there was contract work available again and i now work just one day a week- previously working 3-4 days.
My questions are
1. was i entitled to welfare payment for the weeks after my maternity benifit finished for the weeks there was no work available for me?
2. can i apply for supplementary income payment as i only work 1 day a week?

hi,
I am a contact worker but for tax purposes i am self employed.
Can I ask are you familiar with these issues...I want to persue this with social welfare but its usually such an ordeal that id like some " heads up" before i do,
